With current uprising showing signs of shift in the momentum, people have started flocking the government offices and other employment cells.
On Saturday, thousands of youths (boys and girls) had gathered at Sher-e-Kashmir Park to appear for the posts of sweepers and dog catchers in Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC). The recruitment process when this reporter visited at the venue was going on with youths eagerly waiting for their turn.
“I am a class 12th pass out. I have been doing nothing for last three months. I was driving a rented auto rickshaw,” said Adil Sheikh.
Adil has applied for the post of sweeper in SMC. “I pray to God, I get the job. I just appeared in the interview. I hope I will qualify it. The interviewers checked my certificates and later asked few questions about how to make city clean and neat,” he said.
SMC Commissioner Bashir Ahmed Khan said over 3000 candidates have applied for the advertised 300 posts. “The interview process is continuing,” he said.
Similarly, the recruitments in J&K police as SPOs are also in full swing. Heavy security arrangements have been put in place around the Bakshi Stadium, where the SPO recruitments are taking place. The recruitments will continue till October 3. According to official records as many as 1000 youth from Srinagar have registered for the SPO posts. Media persons were not allowed into the venue to cover the SPO recruitment.
In Budgam district, the SPO recruitment is undergoing at District Sports Stadium Budgam, where 4000 youths have applied so far. Earlier in restive south Kashmir, over 13,000 youths registered for different posts in Police and Army. Similarly, dozens of youths even from far off area of Kashmir had come to the Social Welfare office here to apply for the different posts advertised by the department.
